Can I use GFCI loads for the two 20A small kitchen appliance circuits using a shared neutral?

Mopo asked:

I’m putting some outlets in front of a pocket door, so it needs to be very shallow. So I plan to load these outlets onto GFCI outlet elsewhere in the kitchen so I can use very shallow boxes. If I do this, can I used and shared neutral for the two circuits or does this break the GFCI protection. Is this situation up to code?
